Dorothy Odell Foster is Director of Government Affairs for Nicor Gas, with primary responsibility for managing relationships and leading company initiatives within the legislative and executive branches in Springfield. Dorothy also served Nicor Gas for nine years as a Community Relations Director, working directly with municipal leaders and as well as community and economic development groups in Chicago’s south and southwest suburbs.
Prior to joining Nicor Gas, Dorothy was a senior member of AT&T’s regional public relations office in Chicago, where she coordinated public affairs programs focusing on educators, nonprofits and small businesses as well as philanthropic programs supporting Chicago’s diverse arts and grassroots community groups. Her background in external affairs management includes her work as public relations director for The Chicago Bar Association and as manager of station relations for the nationally-syndicated Phil Donahue Show.
A native of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, she was chosen for the Southern Student Project Scholarship and completed her high school education in State College, Pennsylvania. Dorothy is a graduate of The University of Chicago. While in college, she was named a Robert F. Kennedy Urban Fellow on assignment in Newark, New Jersey. Her recent Chicago area community activities include her board work with eta Creative Arts Foundation, The Renaissance Collaborative in Bronzeville, the Ford Heights Community Service Organization and the South-Southwest Suburban United Way. She has been a member of Trinity United Church of Christ for more than 25 years.
