February is Black History Month, a month to reflect on and learn about African American history. Black History Month, or National African American History Month, celebrates the accomplishments of African Americans nationwide while acknowledging the role we played in American history. An extension of Historian Carter G. Woodson’s “Negro History Week”, Black History Month serves as an opportunity to delve into the history of African Americans.
At the Illinois African American Coalition for Prevention we are especially excited to share information and events around Black History Month. We’re creating a visual calendar to highlight the national events around Black History Month! Are you having an event or know of an event we should share with our network?
