Clergy & Lay Leadership Summit (CLS) – ILAACP

Clergy & Lay Leadership Summit (CLS)

Clergy & Lay Leadership Summit: A Faith Based Response to the HIV/AIDS Epidemic in African-American Communities.

For the past ten years, the ILAACP and McCormick Theological Seminary, a founding summit partner, have collaborated with several Chicago area faith and community based organizations, to convene the Clergy Leadership Summit on HIV/AIDS Community Outreach, a one-day summit aimed at engaging clergy leaders in a dialogue around the issue of HIV/AIDS in the black church and evoking “call-to-action.” As Summit participation has grown, the Coalition of organizers has re-focused on the central goal of moving beyond dialogue by identifying a feasible and sustainable strategy for strengthening the role of the black clergy in combating the epidemic. To that end, the ILAACP and MTS have proposed The Indaba Project, through a series of interrelated responses – i.e., capacity building, community mobilization, and Summit – intended to result in long-term and sustainable local ministries that are equipped and engaged in active HIV/AIDS prevention services at the community level.
